Dessert. That one word that brings a smile to my lips. It is such a sweet, sweet word. After eating a sumptuous meal, it feels so good to cap it off with your favorite dessert. Many things come to mind – moist chocolate cake, tiramisu, New York cheesecake, pistachio ice cream, chocolate pudding with whipped cream, or just a simple bar of your favorite chocolate. Ahh, that’s definitely heaven on earth. For those who are watching their diet, hey, it is good to indulge yourself and give in to your cravings every once in a while. 

Just about every food establishment you go to offers dessert. But not all desserts are created equal. Some serve desserts just for the sake of having them on the menu. While some restaurants make you feel that they have spent time and effort in creating your desserts. From the presentation to the aroma, and finally the taste, desserts surely play with your senses and should be a satisfying way to end your dining experience.  

But what is the importance of dessert? Why does every restaurant have them on their menu? Well, dessert lovers rejoice because science has provided us with valid reasons to love and enjoy our desserts. First, experts say that desserts lower our blood pressure and could reduce the risk of having cardiovascular diseases. Second, desserts could help you lose weight. Of course, you just need to have a portion of the dessert but that is better than nothing. If you will notice, healthy diets include desserts on their menu. Everything in moderation, right? It is because desserts make you feel satisfied and you stop eating afterward. Lastly, desserts are good motivators. They encourage you to be active and reach your goal because, at the end of it all, you can give yourself a treat for a job well done.
